Well most of you know I've had my freelander now for around 2 weeks. I spent a while on here researching things and finding out there was no way on earth I'd buy a petrol one. So opted for a TD4. Finding one was a bloody hard task as many were in a bit of a mess or not quite how they were described. Anyway found the one I wanted. Drove well on the test drive, drove well on the way home but then the niggles started.

I feel like I fix something on it and another thing happens... So far its been the rear window wiper, abs light, speedo stopped working, rear door opening by itself (still needs sorting), black smoke, pulling egr vacuum off (my fault), engine, central locking going odd, rear window dropping (linked to door I suspect), no locking wheel nut so having to use mole grips, interior clock going gaga, indicators going gaga x 2, screw worn through one of the induction pipes.

I've got a ton of other jobs lined up to hopefully sort some of these problems but I decided to speak to a locksmith about the central locking. He has sorted out a new fob and got it tuned to the car but now the rod has fallen off. He was only here to do the fob so didn't have chance to put the rod back on but said the motor was still working and that the rod had simply fallen off by the looks of things.

I think I still love it, even though it breaks and so far nothing serious has gone wrong (except the rear door coming open at about 15 mph earlier. Luckly nobody was behind me...). It is slow though but it is comfy. Although I can see why they call them hippos with the body roll!

So jobs to do.
  • Oil and filter
  • Air filter
  • Crank case breather (BMW one on order)
  • Turbo filter thing
  • EGR removal (got bits ready)
  • Change coolant
  • Fit steering wheel controls to alpine CD player (fitted other day but without wheel bits).
  • Sort drivers side central locking rod and while I am at it clean the speaker terminals as they are very distorted at any sort of volume
  • Buy another clock and fit that.
  • Replace worn steering wheel
  • Buy spare wheel cover
  • Detail and fully paint correct paint work and sort interior out- bit filthy by my standards
  • Buy wind deflectors
  • Buy side steps
  • Fix rear tailgate catch microswitch.
  • Replace tyres
  • Possibly replace front speakers and add amp
  • Hammerite the rear rusty drums black.

WOW the list is endless. Hopefully will be able to do some of these over the weekend. It's more of a list of mods to do so I am eventually happy with it. Unfortunately, until I sell my other car I have little pennies to play with.

The rear tailgate door opening is a bit of a necessity though. One thing I'm not looking forward to sorting either. Hoping the connectors just need a bit of a clean.

I also need to get all the autobox fluid, and drive train fluid replaced - one job I aint looking forward to having done as I know its gonna cost a fair wack - not something I wanna do myself in all honesty.

Fair ol list but most of its stuf that you would be doing on any car ya just bought unless it was sold with full service.
Speakers probably kanckered or loose, as distortion caused by worn / damaged cones or whole assembly moving due to loose fixings.
Hope ya get it all sorted :)

Freelander - A bottomless home in the road, into which, one constantly pours money.

Lol, yeah I know most of those things are normal things or even things I just want to do. It's just the little things like boots opening, electric faults, off noises every so often (not consistant though...).

I don't think it helps having a 101 other jobs to do (having being made redundant, weddings, honeymoons, school reports to write, planning, marking etc and car detailing every spare moment (a business I have just set up). Hopefully after tomorrow I will have a little bit more time.
