Weird defender transmission noise

Any Ideas about this?

Defender 90. recenly starts to squeak (like bad brakes but quieter) on acceleration in any gear. Stops if you ease off the gas. When coming to a stop (clutch down) a strange mettalic tinkling which gets slower as the car slows and stops when the car does.

Looked around underneath. No obvious stuff!

Almost certainly propshaft u/j on the way out.

Look on ebay. You can often pick up new ones cheap.

If U/J not the problem (unlikely) then check the pads on the park break - Sounds as if the shoes could have worn away (maybe not adjusted right previously) and now the rivits are rubbing againt the drum - thats what the one on my replacment transfer box was like so kept the old one

If the shoes are adjusted correclty the shoes will never get worn away (unlike a car) as they never get used to actualy slow the car down (unless your mad) - (don't try this)

Agreeded - you were too quick for me before I edited it - been up for 36h straight last night

But agree UJ is the 1st port of call
