I have a weird issue with my brake lights. When the tail lights are on, the brake lights flash intermittently. It only happens with the lights on and it still happens after disconnecting the brake light switch. This leads me to conclude that there is a short between the feed to the tail lights and the brake lights. Both brake lights flash at the same time so both sides are affected equally. Does anyone have any idea where I should start looking for the short please?

I would begin by making sure that both bulbs are correctly seated - if the bulb is rotated from where it should sit, the blob of solder on the base of the bulb could short across. So, take the lenses off, put the tail lights on, and gently waggle the bulbs, and watch to see if the brake lamps come on.

This situation is not helped by modern Wipac bulb holders being made of cheese.
