I'm a completely new, but highly enthusiastic and utterly hooked new Defender owner, having recently bought a 90 TD5 (1999). It's in pretty good condition, having done only 55,000 miles, but I would ideally like to get it waxoyled as a general protection against rust - a particular problem with us coastal dwellers near all this salty air! I live near Edinburgh and wonder if anyone knows (a) If it is something I should try and do myself? Or (b) if not, is there anywhere near here where I can get it done?

Thanks

Did my 90 recently with a tin of hammerite waxoil underseal and a brush, good job, great when it comes to cleaning off the muck.

However, if you can go with the spray cans of the stuff mentioned above, and get a spray gun I would recommend that, you can blast it into box section, into outriggers and pretty much just cover the underside.

If I had to I would paint it on again, however my friend has the gun and cans now, and his neighbour has a car lift! (now i find out!)

Thanks for the responses folks, all very helpful. Also uncovered an earlier thread on waxoyling and will probably try a DIY job. Sounds like I just need patience, a friend / venue with lifting gear and a very good set of overalls!

Put some protection on the floor too as it will stain the concrete/stick gravel together/kill grass*
