Hi I Currently have a 300tdi 90 and looking for options to help protect the chassis whilst I save up for a galvanised chassis. What is the current price for having a chassis waxoyled? Or is there any other reconmendatios to help protect it from the dreaded rust

Cheers Tom

Old engine oil mixed with grease is as good as anything, as the carbon depo0sits in the oilk will protect thye innerds of the chassis and it can be painted or sprayed on the outside! ;);)
However, if you want to pay for Waxoyle, IIRC it starts at around the £400 mark :eek:

Bleddy hell £400 makes the £100 I was quoted sound good! Yeah the boss said to me about using old engine oil and diesle On it like we do with the machinery how easy would waxolying be to do my self?

Waxoyling, is a very simple job.

If you have a compressor a schultz gun and buy the Waxoyl. Face mask, white tyvek suit and gloves,

Pressure wash / steam clean before, including flushing the inside of the chassis as best you can. Let it dry out completely.
Clean all the surface rust off using a wire brush.
Spray a mixture of waxoyl with white spririt into the chassis, paint the outside with neat waxoyl.
It is a dirty smelly job.
For £100 , I would snap their habds off.

Cheers

Doesn't sound to bad of a job to do. But like you said I'll ring them back up and get the 90 booked in for £100 and let someone else have to fun of poking around underneath it.

Just make sure it includes pre wash incl inside chassis , and they are going to waxoyl the inside and outside.
Including the waxoyl, I do not see how they can do it for that cost.

Cheers

I'm not sure I just rang them up for a price of a chassis waxoyl and they said £100. I'll probably have a ring around a few other places and see what they quote for prices.

I used Dinitrol 4941 and Dinitrol ML on the outer and inner chassis and bulkhead, and bottom of doors, and cross member etc etc
Comes up nice. Hard matt black, non sticky smooth finish. I just got tonnes of rattle cans and did it myself (at least I know nothings been missed)
Didn't take too long.

How many cans of the Dinitrol 4941 did you roughly use? I'm playing with the idea of either using waxoyl/dinitrol on the chassis every year or biting the bullet and getting a galvanised chassis

About 450 or so which will be a thorough job of spraying inside the chassis in all the nooks as well as outside. Tamar Land Rover do mine can't fault them.

I just spoke to tamar and where more helpful than the last lot I spoke toThey said about £380 for a full outside and inside job. Which is what I would go for

5 of the 4941 and 3 of the brown runnier ML for inside the chassis. But I doubt it'll need redoing for a few years, seems to be holding up well.

Buy all the kit and it will be the same/cheaper price as paying a garage but then you own all the kit, next year it will cost you 5 litres of chassis wax (20 quid) and the same every year after that.
No matter what people say it needs touching up every year.

Ive just done my 90 and the series, havent done either for 2 years and used 5 litres on each car, also mixed a little engine oil in so it creeps better.

Compressor from Aldi https://www.aldi.co.uk/air-compressor-50l/p/094243120321100
Same machine in machine mart in red twice the price

Coiled air line from Aldi 25 quid https://www.aldi.co.uk/air-hose-reel/p/093058028505903
Same thing in machine mart 40 quid

Wax gun from ebay with wax http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SG18-BRAN...242406?hash=item41729502a6:g:ZmYAAOxyOM5RcAHW

If using Waxoyl mix it with 10% gear oil around SAE40.
This stops the Waxoyl going hard and flaking off. Although l'd use it neat in high impact areas such as the wheel arches.
l Waxoyled my friend's static caravan chassis eight years ago and the coating is still sticky, it's come off a bit where the chassis is exposed to the weather but the coating is mainly fully intact.

I've got loads of sump oil and very tempted to spray it on, but concerned it'll rot rubber parts. Also, the fog can't be good to breathe.

In the past I've forked out for Waxoyl and done it myself. Maybe Dinitrol next time as it has better rust inhibitors. Worth the investment now the Defender is 'obsolete'!

Hardest part is cleaning the chassis yourself.
It's a horrible crappy job!

Having the chassis washed at a commercial cleaners 1st helps.
