Hi all, been a while since I was last on here , hope there's not been too many mishaps ! . Well my water pump failed in dramatic style today so I got to work in removing it with the help of saints sticky ! However after removing all the bolts and bits and bobs as I pulled off the old pump one of the metal pipes actually the smaller of the two came away with the pump! Instead of staying where it should! Now the question is where the hell does it go ? Can it really just be a question of pushing it back in?? I imagine it goes into a housing sealed with an o ring ?? But where and is it easy to get at ? Any Body have an idea?

It goes into a manifold bolted to the back of the engine...

The O ring should be captive in the manifold and may not have fallen out.

Best thing is to lube the end of the pipe with some Petrolium Jelly (Vaseline to name a brand) and push it back home, with a bit of deft feeling about, you should be able to locate the hole.

It is buried at the back and the pipes cross the 'Valley' under the intake manifold.

Thanks Saint, playing devils advocate and the o ring has come out, what kind of job am I looking at to replace it? Bearing in mind I'm on gas and there's a lot going on back there

You don't want option 2, if you are worried and have time you could use a mini bore scope Usb camera to check which are really cheap on eBay but do as saint says and lube up the end of the pipe and you should be ok just try and push it back in with a gentle wiggle and a twist

As above.

Could entail either getting access the back of the engine and taking the manifold off, or taking the intake manifold off.....to get access to the 'Valley'

Neither off which are pleasurable but are doable!

You could always pop the transmission out of the way, then its a piece of cake.
You can just see the end of one of them in the top of the phots.

Maintaining your cars water pump is simple. You need to ensure the engine coolant is in good condition and has the correct amount of antifreeze. By having the correct amount of antifreeze stops the water freezing in cold temperatures, preventing small particles from breaking off inside the engine and wearing the water pump’s parts.
