Hi guys my name is lincon. I have had my discovery 2 TDi on 02 plate 111000 miles for 4 weeks. Week 1, it started to leak desiel. Luckily it was under warranty so it went back. It turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. Unfortunately the work completed was shoddy, the mechanics had the truck for 4 days and even though they changed the part it still leaked - I ended up paying a rite mechanic to do a proper job. So fuel leak fixed. I then noticed another leak. I have narrowed this down to a coolant leak - quite large patch after truck has been parked. I think this because if I soak up the fluid with some kitchen roll the fluid has a pink tint to it, the coolant i use is pink. My problem is I can't see where the leak is coming from. I have looked down and looked up but cant see much at all. The leak finds its way to the floor via the hole left by a missing screw in the plastic protective cover under the engine at the front. So no white smoke, no over heating, had all the covers off and can't see any issues with head gasket or pink staining, no issues with milky water and the heater seems to work fine with no gurgling. I keep topping up the water tank. My biggest fear is that I have a craked block. Any advise or pointers would be very welcome, thanks in advance guys.

Welcome to LZ, mate. :)

Minor point, but Discovery 2s never had Tdi engines.

I would try posting about the rest in the Disco section.

A couple of things to look for.

check the rubber pipe that hides behind the turbo. it links the oil cooler to a pipe that runs around the rear of the engine. Pipes are known to perish ansd crack.

Also , you can put a plastic bottle over the outlet from the expansion tank to see if the cap is letting coolant out. New caps are cheap, they fail over time.

Other than that, it is a case of checking carefully , or putting a UV fluid in the coolant and using a blacklight to check if you can see where it is leaking.

Cheers

Thanks Neilly, i will check the pipes and the cap.

Is my worry about a craked block warranted. Is this a common issue with TD5s ?
