Just refitting screen washer tank after washers failed on TD5

This was due to what I can only describe as a layer of frog spawn (without the tadpoles) in the bottom of the tank.
Maybe I used a cheap or very old additive sometime.
My question is, why are the original non return valves not fitted closer to the pumps?
Surely after initial priming the whole length of tubing would remain full.
Is it to stop having a long length of tubing freezing up?
I am thinking of putting them close to the pumps, as I would personally find it easier to remove the headlight to work on them there, than up by the bulkhead and not having to remove part of the headlining for the rear wash valve.

Anyone recommend the best valves to use?

Thanks for any advice

Usually the gunge is a mix of fluids, one brand -vs- an other and they gunk up ...

Try putting a capfull of methylated spirits in there instead of screenwash, best to be done in summer to be fair ...

Yes, non-returns are for pipe freeze avoidance, many EU screenwashes go down to even -20° C ...

Thanks for that.

I remember before washers were standard in all cars I fitted a system in my MGA and the bottle was inside the car. I used to put meths in it during the winter and I almost became addicted to the smell.

Lovely
