so the Warn 8274 is regarded as the top choice for competition, but what is its replacement, what is there out there that could have similar performance and reliability without the cost ? just been wondering, is there a knowledgeable sole out there who can help me with my pondering ? :D

On the subject of copies...I bought my winch of fleaby for next t nothing, thought the design looked familiar, but it was only when it came with a photocopied superwinch instruction manual did I realise!!!. I can't beleive it will last as long as a genuine item, but for the price I'm not fussed.
The chinese will copy everything

Can't say I've ever seen an 8274 chinese copy .. no doubt they're out there mind .. ;)

well why then haven't warn made something new and better, the 8274 has been out for ages, surely there has been enough development in winch design to make something with faster freespool, stronger pull more waterproofing since the 8274 came out ?

It works, and works very, very well.

There are improved parts available, but they're mostly different materials, differently manufactured, and you have to spend a fortune on them ..

Saley winch just as good as 8274

Some say better

Saley, hydraulic and almost made from unobtanium .. but yes, supposed to be a great winch.

As I said, available from where? Not being able to get one sorta limits the appeal ... ;)

Their a closely guarded secret

You will struggle to get one an if you do the price tag is hefty one sold 6 months ago on d44 for £2700 secondhand

John saley Is the man you need to get hold of

You can upgrade a cheapie however I recently got a winch from
A forum member for my usual ebay max price and
I am shocked how poor it is for a super winch!

Plastic shaft joiner!!

My t max internals is by far stronger in that aspect!

The super winch is all torn down in the shed will need the usual cleanup and some
Some new parts but should be running soon!

Couldn't believe the plastic motor-drive shaft coupling!

Might have to look into playing on the old mans milling machine to
Make a twin motor end plate and raise the gearing

But that's after we have finished our existing projects we have lined up keeping is all busy!!

Diff pinning rover, Almost done

P38 4 pin centre conversions to rover case, Almost done.

Rear simple Salisbury locker for arlc trials/comp safari motor, Supplied parts today

Steering wheel boss, (making steeringwheel sit lower on the column. Removing 33mm stand off height
From the standrd boss) almost done boss is in freezer and plate ready to be heated and assembled then welded

Extending the splines on my lower steering shaft. Complete!

Keeping my old Mans Lathe and milling machine working hard!!
