warn 8274, freespool and help!!!

Hello there,

I have my trusty Warn m8274-50 fitted to my land rover but for some unknown reason when you have put it onto freespool mode its so hard to pull the rope out.. ive stripped the winch down but i cannot see why it wont freespool out and its slowing me down when im challenging the vehicle..

can anyone help me????
