want a range rover so confused can u help

hi were looking to buy a range rover either diesel or petrol with lpg,but im so confused by the tax brackets and mpg,we currently own an 05 tt which is going thank god wot a crock of crap,weve been looking at range rovers today and seen a few around the 12,000 to 15.000 quid mark on a 03 plate,wot i want to know is wot mpgs are you guys getting out of petrol and diesel models and how effective are lpg conversions,also ive seen an ad saying that the lpg conv brings the tax down also wot tax are you all paying on the diesel,petrol and converted models thanks gaz and if anyone has a tidy range for sale pm me thanks
 
No idea, I deliberately got a pre 2001 P38 on LPG because of road tax if that helps.
MPG would be around 13 urban, 22 on a run (approx) Road tax I think is around £400 per year, not sure about the LPG discounts except you don't pay congestion charges with an LPG car.
 
sounds about right hammy! no tax break with lpg unless converted from the factory when new.

Hows ur tappets doing hammy?
 
tax only goes upto stupid money on 06 onward motors, mines a 2005 and cost 225 quid a year. its a td6 which i have had a little play with including a remap and it returns 32mpg on a run at a nice 75 on cruise, dont know about the petrol ones mind.

Still crap hehe. Learning to live with it now though.

£225 sounds bearable for an L322 but as you said, its diesel and the petrol would be almost definitely well above that based on Co2 emissions.

EDIT:

Find a reg number (ebay?) and go the the check vehicle section of the dvla site. Enter the reg and it should tell you how much the road tax is.

I have a 2002 4.4 Vogue with LPG conversion. It is shown on the logbook as an 'alternative fuel vehicle'.

RFL is £235 per year.

Averages 18.5mpg on petrol (you have to run on petrol for the first couple of minutes till the temperature is high enough to vapourise the LPG properly) and a little less on LPG. Last time I worked it out, it was costing about 16p per mile running on LPG.

As far as running is concerned, the V8 is very smooth, very powerful and I can't tell the difference between it running on LPG or petrol. The system changes over automatically. I did try a diesel model before I settled on the petrol Vogue, it seemed sluggish and less refined by comparison.

If you go for an LPG, get one with a quality conversion (mine is BRC which seems pretty good) as the system is complex and a cheap one may not be reliable.

Someone is seeing you off if you are paying £400 a year tax. Shouldn't be more than £225 for a pre 2006 car (any car!).

MPG for my 4.4 is around 20 on the motorway, 17 around town driving conservatively.

p.s. original poster - any chance of some full stops? Makes sentances much easier to read with a bit of punctuation.

By looking at this The cost of vehicle tax for cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences : Directgov - Motoring i reckon u got a good deal but is ****ed so cudve misread it :D:D
 
I bought a l322 2003, taxed it friday £245 for the petrol guys. Worth it though just for the sound of it taking off at the lights

My tappets are fooked so don't quite get the same buzz lol.
£400 a year is based on guesswork. Never been in a situation where I have to check how much a car is to tax but I'm aware that after March 2001, tax is calculated by Co2 output and I thought the upper scale was around £400 per year. Go figure that a RR isn't that high lol.
 
Mine is a 2001 on a 'Y', 4.6 Petrol with LPG. £235 per year, roughly 20mpg......drives like a dream......only fill up on Petrol every couple of months, fill up on LPG every 2 or 3 days, 59.9PPL can't be bad....
