voltage stabilzer,

I am trying to figure out my fuel gauge. Took a reading with digital and analog meter at the fuel tank unit, readings jumps from around 5V to 10V almost twice a second. Could I have a wire crossed, or according to circuit diagram the wire from tank unit goes to fuel gauge and from fuel gauge is supposed to go to the "voltage stabilizer" which I can find but the markings on it are not clear.

Solved,
It was the stabilizer and sender. The arm on the sender was fairly stiff to swing and I think the ethanol I put in a while back soaked into the plastic float, because I can hear swishing, so I changed it to a spare one I had with a tin float. Found a spare stabilizer and now it shows 10V steady. Gauge is at least reading now, so no more guess work.

Don't you just hate it when a thing has separate faults, when I first got my landy the hazard flashers didn't work and I was desperate to fix them because I expected to break down a lot. There where 3 separate faults, the flasher unit itself was knackered, there was a bad connection in the indicator switch and a bad Earth on one of the lights. It took me longer to sort that lot out than to replace all my brakes

You cant test a mechanical (like series landys have) voltage stabiliser with a digital multimeter as the voltage on them jumps up and down

You need an old style voltage meter (type with a needle)
