Hi all

Bought my first range rover Vogue V8 4.4 petrol.
Had it motd but days after picking up from garage it has developed a few problems.

Firstly the battery was draining every night....
Then I was getting all sorts of faults appearing......
Now running really rough, changed bank 1 & 2 sensors as a diagnostics check revealed one of the sensors to be faulty.......
Then when turning a squealing noise and what I think is power steering fluid spraying onto the exhaust causing some smoke...on the passenger side....
Where do I start?
A friend told me the first few problems could be caused by alternator, and the rough running and spluttering could be plugs and points.
Obviously a leak or pump problem with steering......these problems all appeared once I picked the car up from the mot, when I asked why I was running on 4 cylinders instead of 8 and why the pump was squealing I was told it came in like that which is untrue. Aren't I right in thinking it wouldnt of passed an mot with these problems?

POINTS!!!!!!

Year or vehicle would help

Bad battery will cause phantom faults, check the output of the battery with a multimeter 14v peak, also pays to have it load tested, the age of a battery can also give condition as the L322 is hard on its battery and anything over 5yrs old is pushing it..

Uhh check the codes, if it's an M62 2002-2005 it could be a Vanos related fault, the giveaway is usually a timing over advanced or retarded code., also Cam position sensors can play up, again on the M62.

Bad 02's usually cause it to run open loop, "rich" but it seldom causes a misfire, as the car reverts to a base Map..

Power steering leak could be a hose that has perished..

More info required ;)

welcome by the way :):cool::D

Welcome:)

If only firing on 4 then probably wouldn’t pass emissions, also with visible leaks could be a fail if bad or at least an advisory.

You don’t say if you changed the battery. As above ^^^^ good battery essential.

Where to start?

I would sort the leaks and electrical battery/charging. You will be surprised how many silly little faults would disappear.

Good luck.

Being the M62 it's probably oil in the spark plug wells which cause misfires, and the rocker gaskets harden causing oil to drip onto the manifolds, compounded by more than likely the classic failed or failing PCV valve.

Garage sounds well dodgy!
