I have a 1984 Classic that was fitted with a VM 3.6 diesel in 1987. It a six cylinder version of the 2.4 that Land Rover fitted from factory. The injection pump leaks fuel and I am trying to remove it to replace the seals.

However, it needs a special tool which I can’t find available anywhere. It pushes the pump driveshaft out of the timing gear. Does anyone know the thread size/type in the timing gear so I can make my own tool? I’ve attached a photo of the thread in the timing gear if my description isn’t clear enough!

Thanks

Did well to squeeze a straight 6 in there, did they 'modify' the bulkhead?

With R&D money being short I would have thought Rover would have at least experimented with the later version of the P5 engine which was producing as much power/torque as the Buick lump, although it was a heavy unit so perhaps that's why they turned to the 'States for inspiration.

I once transplanted a P5 into a S3 6cyl. station wagon & the torque at low revs. was incredible.
I never found out the top speed (chicken) but in overdrive it was way over the legal limit ;)
