Hi All,
I'm new here so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.
I've seen a few older posts about this but haven't seen any real solutions yet so being a known problem I'm hoping someone may be able to help please?
I have a Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 HSE and have terrible trouble with a dense white fog/mist entering the cabin through the air vents. This is so chronic now that it can almost fill the interior of the car up with mist at times which is a little disconcerting when driving up the motorway at 70mph! It can happen at anytime in any weather but seems worse when it's really wet when it also mists up all of the windows making this a dangerous problem now. It appears to happen when the aircon/Climate Control is on and I turn one side up to keep the wife warm ( I know should let her freeze etc before someone else says it!!). My garage who are very good and have been using for years are at a loss, they have cleared/cleaned drainage pipes, changed a filthy dirty pollen filter etc but this seems to have made little difference unfortunately. Has anyone else found a fix for this as I'm dreading the winter coming and to be honest would have to consider getting rid if I can't fix this as it's too much risk. I love the car so don't want to lose it over this so any help would be very much appreciated?
Many thanks in advance
Higgy

My D3 did this very occasionally. I used to press the recirculation button to clear it. I think it was something do with the evaporator freezing up randomly. I never found the cure as it wasn't a problem for me.

The fact you are trying to heat one side and not the other only exaggerates the problem, it's also comes about when you turn the aircon off, and warm air on, then as soon as you go for demist, the aircon comes on and tries to dry damp air, you will need to leave aircon all the time even if you then turn heat up to overcome the cold

Hi thanks for your replies they are very much appreciated.
I do leave aircon on all the time and always have done in all of my vehicles all year round so I'm not sure that this is the case as it's happening despite the aircon being on. It also does it when both sides are set at the same temperature but seems to get worse if changing one side, however it can happen without warning at any time on any setting it would seem.

I'm interested to know if other Freelander 2 owners are also experiencing this or is it just the 'odd few' that this happens to?

I'll try and get a video of it next time it happens and is bad so that you can actually see the problem yourselves. It really is a potentially big problem as it's not just a small 'puff' of mist but a continuous cloud/stream of mist, which as suggested above, is potentially dangerous if only in the fact that it is extremely distracting...

There was a recall, an 07 I had was taken in, aircon condensation was able to drip on to the ptc, which is basically a heater that comes on in the airstream,( they did away with the webasto fuel burning heater) the recall changed something as it was seen as a fire risk, a dealer would be able to check your car history
Certainly a clean pollen filter helps, and obviously aircon drains clear, are they connected, I wonder if the heater is storing condensation, are your carpets dry? is there any sign of dampness or corrosion under the carpets at the base of the bulkhead?

That's very interesting, thank you Freelance it is appreciated.
I'll check that out, the garage I bought it from told me that they had checked all recalls but then again they told me a lot of things that I doubt were correct and my faith in them soon went to zero after complete 'cock ups' and simple mistakes when they had it back a few times whilst under warranty!! Carpets etc are all dry and it now has a new pollen filter so checking this recall seems like a sensible next step to me. Is there an easy way to check recalls on line do you know or will I need to go back through a dealer?

I've found the recall...

Just need to see if there is any way of searching my own car's recall history, this looks like the difficult bit!! :)

LR can tell you that. Although the recall is for burning wiring and draining batteries. If yours isn't doing either, then it's likely to be a different fault. Unless the PTC has been disabled, prior to the recall, which was never done?

Ok thanks Nodge68, may have to look at something else then. I have contacted LR anyway to see what recalls effect my vehicle and if it ever had them so we'll see what comes back even if not for this fault. I suppose at least then I'll know where I stand with it. As stated above the garage I bought it from talked a good game and made the right noises but in reality they were shocking so I have little faith in anything they have done. When my own garage checked the pollen filter apparently it was clogged solid and filthy dirty, as the car went back for this to the original garage they should have at least changed this filter and the problem has actually got worse since they worked on the vehicle (or said they did!!) I had other problems when the vehicle went back such as: Not doing work promised, Forgetting to secure the engine guard/cover, Returning the vehicle with front central valance missing, Battery partially disconnected, Broken airfilter box etc etc Now the warranty is up they won't speak with me....
