Wey hey hey, now after 25 year of provarication (err,....., yep), have now got meself one of them there Landy Defender 90's (Blue 1994 300tdi 90 CSW). Think I did ok, chassis bulkhead and cross member look and sound pretty good. Very little rust at all infact. Did about 150 miles on the way home from buying it and it pulled well and did'nt skip a beat.

Life in the slow lane of the motorway is an odd thing though. All the scenery was in focus rather than whissing past as it usually does. I felt calm and relaxed and did'nt have to spend half the time looking for coppers in the rear view mirror!

I did all the right things on buying, almost. Did an HPI thingy, checked, chassis, engine and vin plate against the V5 and all ok. Got underneath and poked about. Checked for smoke etc, and all pretty ok.

Further research later at home though found it had been clocked by at least 25,000 miles (You can view basic old MOT details through VOSA online). Checked the VIN code (Cheers Grunt) and found out is was not a factory CSW (suggstively advertised as one). Also, it used to be white, apparently, according to the HPI, but i've been all over it and no white anywhere, so if it was, it must have been a strip down full respray. (buy the way the HPI, via the RAC also said it had a "Seven Speed Automatic Petrol" Gearbox!!!!!!!!!!).

Overall, I think i did ok. ****it, it's a Landy. Going outside to have sex with it now........... Is that illegal???

All I need to know now, is what tyre sizes fit a Defender 90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........................................................

just squeezed 265/75 16's onto the standard rims of my 110! goes fine but did need spacers. think the bfg's would go without the spacers but the insa special trax's definatly need them!

33x12.5". on 15 x 10 rims ems to be about the largest without serious mods.

i suggest you should stop looking into the vehicles history!! landies seem to have strange pasts.

Wow, amazed I got away with that tyre one:eek:

I was slightly taking the ****, based on all ribbing about tyres and searching the threads, but I did spend all last night searchin this one.:)

I've got 265/75 16's on for now, on some crappy 16" alloys, will need changing soon. I note 235/85/16's appear to be the choice for decent off roading.

I like the idea of the 33/12.5 on some 15 x 10's (I think Steve Bain was suggesting that an 8" rim was too narrow for these? But someone else said 8" deep dish modular will be fine?). If I can afford them, probably go for BFG's as these seem well recieved.

I admit I am a bit of a victim to the look of the vehicle:cool: (any other good reason for 33/12.5's?) but probably will be 80% road use with some green laning and light pay and play off road at the weekends. AT's probably the way to go in this case.

Steve; You say no serios mods. So no lift and mabe just adjusting steering lock limits abit????

you can run 33x12.5 on 8inch modulars.(i suggested 7 inch was too thin which is what i had on for a week or so) the offset is much less on 8inch compared to 10 so you will run into issues with tyres hitting the radius and losing turning circle. with 10inch you keep the turning circle but run into issues with tyres clipping arches on full articulation and thread not being covered. i have no mods lift related etc. i have trimmed the front and back of my arches a bit though.

good reason for 12.5 imo is the weight is distributed over a bigger footprint so will do less damage to dry lanes.

From bitter experience I can say that the BFG Mud-Terrains (235/85/16) are good but a trifle expensive to replace...c£140 per corner. That said I am awaiting a won tyre from fleaBay to act as my spare.. a rough rider I believe, unused for £42.

Back on topic though; my tractor is stated as green on the V5C but has been painted a matt-black colour by some infadel!...but sanding down a trial panel reveals both olive green and desert sand/pink colours thanks to the Army.

just going through the 'not covered' problem myself now. 265/75 insa special traxs on my 110. but they hit the arms on full lock. so had spacers fitted. now i need a new disk because the whole bloody wheel fell off. it just gets better. my advice would be if your not into spending lots of money on her just stick with the 235's
