Hey folks,

I’ve just bought a series landy...my first one!!

It is a project and has been sitting in a farm shed since 1994. It didn’t come with a reg doc and the chassis number has long since rusted away with the rest of the chassis...it also doesn’t have a vin plate on it.

It is registered in the farmers name that I bought it from but he lost the reg doc.

I don’t want to spend any money on it unless I can register it in my name first obviously. And I can apply for the reg doc without the vin number.

Is there anyway to get the vin number from the registration number? I’ve done an HPI check but that doesn’t show it.

Please help....she is worth saving. If I can’t register it then it will just get stripped for bits.

Thanks in advance,

Kev.

I helped someone a while ago in a similar situation (with a motorbike). The easiest way is to get the DVLA to issue a replacement V5 to the existing owner, he will need to request it - a phone call should do. The key is that the DVLA will post it to the existing owners address and in their name. I can't rmember whether its free or there's a small chanrge. If the V5 is the old format then its free as it's covered by a mandatorty update not a lost doc. If its been a few years I'd expect it to be free. Once you have that you can do the change of ownership and you are sorted. as the replacement V5 will have all the details.

Ditto .
The dvla will help but you will have to get the person you bought it from to do it.

All sorted now!! I spent some time wire brushing then wet sanding the area where the chassis number was supposed to be. Eventually after a few hours I managed to make out a very faint number. Did an HPI Check on the reg number and entered the vin number which says it was a match for that vehicle so I’ve sent away for the reg doc today
