Hi, following last thread had a new VCU fitted and picked car up today. Checked there was actually new parts under car and had a drive including reverse with full lock..... felt great.
On drive home found at low speeds (up to about 40mph) no probe, but over this, there appears to be a vibration that I didn't have before ?
Any ideas guys....
Thanks again

Hi Jedi
The garage I bought it from did it under warranty, through a Land Rover specialist in Liverpool. The garage ordered the parts through a Land rover parts company..... don't know which one,soz

Hi mad hat.
Absolutely no idea.... I know as much about mechanics as I do about walking on the moon..
Sorry, should have said. Will struggle with the tech stuff.

damper - big rubber ring bolted to rear of vcu - required on everything except V6.

Will check tomoz when its light. If it hasn't, does it need one? Would it come as part of the kit? If it hasn't got one, would this cause the vibration?

Hi,
Checked and it has got the damper fitted. Bearings, VCU and damper all looking shiny new ?
Checked tyre wear and all APPEARS ok with level wear across all 4. From history received with car, the last recorded time I can see that all 4 tyres were repalced was 2011, so could this be a tyre issue?
Help much appreciated, thanks guys.:rolleyes:

Take it back to the garage that did the work....Tell them you think the prop is not balanced, and did they use a brand new vcu or a reconditioned one...

Cheers guys.
Going back to garage on Monday. New VCU fitted, but they didnt comment on balancing prop ???
Let you know.

Chock both wheels on one side, take the hand brake oft and put in neutral, lift both wheels on the other side, and turn the front wheel that's in the air. The lifted rear wheel should turn in the same direction. Get someone to turn the wheel while you take a close look at the vcu. If it's a recon that has been cut open it may not have been welded straight. New vcu's are expensive. Hence peeps surprise it's has a new vcu. Becareful when dong this test. Make sure the vehicle is supported on axle stands or something better than a jack.

Hi.
Garage say new Vcu, balanced. Have pointed out uneven wear on tyres (I didn't see prior)..
Hopefully this will sort.
Thanks again.

i was going to say they might have had all the wheels off.. if so then swapping them around (being careful of wear) could fix it.

I had this once with Brit part bearings, the rubber surrounding them was solid and sent the vibration through the car. Fixed with better bearings. The rubber should be soft and easily deformable with your finger get under and poke around!

Hi
Garage confirmed new VCU and balanced (at this point they explained "they where a Land Rover specialist ".... it would appear that due to VCU issue, there has been uneven tyre wear that is causing the vibration ?
Could this be correct ?
Thanks

The props are balanced during manufacture and unless they are modified or damaged there is no requirement to balance them again. Any talk of balancing the VCU is bollox as it's full of sticky fluid that moves about. Same is true of any talk of balancing the whole assembly as the VCU can and will "slip". If they are adamant that they have balanced the vcu - have they changed your headlight fluid also???

I would suggest you check the VCU mounts, the holes are oval - are they pushed over to one side? I doubt this would be noticeable though. As someone else has said, the soft rubber bearing mounts are critical.
