Hi I have a 1964 series 2A diesel and at the weekend fitted new parabolic springs to it as the old ones had seized up, after fitting just the rears i took it for a roadtest to see what it was like and experienced severe vibrations.
went back home and fitted the fronts thinking that because it had been lifted up so much at the back by the new springs it had made the prop angle too high after fitting the fronts its exactly the same, i think its coming from the rear prop shaft do you have to change the uj's for larger angled ones? anyone else had a similar problem thanks jack

I had them running on my last one with normal props, sure you didn't upset anything or not nipped bolts up tight enough ? My old one never shook about, new one has them too but not driven it yet although standard props on it too

Of course I could just have been lucky with the last one

yes i checked my bolts are tight even had the axel alignment checked on a tracker and it looks fine the only thing I have noticed is where the two parts of the prop fit together it now appears to be sligtly pulled further out as you can see where it originaly was and there is slight movement on the splines????

I fitted a set to a Series 1 I had and there weren't any issues. It may be that lifting the body of the vehicle with the new springs has altered the angle of the prop. If you take the prop off at one end you will be able to check the UJs to see I they move freely.

No you should need to change UJ's BUT it's easy to damage or even bend the prop or yokes when changing springs because of the extreme articulation with the prop stationary if the UJ's are not in the right position.

Well could either swap back to leafs and see if that fixes it if so its the prop or take prop off and run in 4 wheel so front wheel drive round the yard and see if it goes if so prop would be suspect then

Ive checked the uj's for ease or movement and they seem fine ive currently got the prop off so ill try it in 4wd tomorrow and see what its like if its ok ill replace the prop as sugested thanks for your replys guys ill let you know how I get on

When you fitted the springs did you tighten them right up straight away? You are meant to leave the shackles loose and then load up/ move the vehicle slightly to allow the springs to settle.

My only other thought is if the angle of the diff has been rotated too far down thereby affecting how the prop runs. You will find out if you run without the rear propshaft.

Just had a flashback to the time we ran a Disco without the rear propshaft and the handbrake drum fell off!!!!

I've got some GBSprings parabolics and while they are good themselves I've had problems with bushes sliding around in both the chassis and the springs themselves...Cured them all by adding a few spots of weld to tack them in. I don't there's that much lateral force so the welds don't seem to need to be tight. But they do sound bad if they clank about

think its more of a propshaft problem as it was being masked by the old springs now you have replaced the springs the problem has shown its face.

when i fitted new paras i had just replaced both props a couple of months earlier as a matter of course during a full rebuild so didn't cause a problem.
