Phil.............................

I have just bought a 02 plate td4 es seems ok but when reversing it seems like the brakes come on could this be that unit ? car has done 90000 with full LR service history

... As far as generalisations go, that's pretty sweeping.

LOL, i've not driven one with 90k thats VCU is in good working order, but i driven plenty that are fooked with far less on the clock!!! For the sake of replacing the VCU when its starts to go, why is it worth leaving it and wrecking 2 or 3 more far more expensive parts!

There's no question that "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

The question is, can one accurately determine if its broke in the first place?

... and for a lay driver that's quite a big ask. The normal characteristics of the Freelander and the risk of false results make many of the tests unreliable.
