Hiya,
I have been offered about three 3.5l V8s and I was wondering if there is much of a market for just the engine themselves. I am from southern Ireland but live in north wales (Bangor) and the engines are down there. So far as I know they are all in good condition and have had regular oil changes. Removed because of diesel conversions (it is hard to get lpg and lots of diesel ones around running on the legal and not so legal varieties!!). I think that there is both efi and carbereter fed ones.
I'm just interested to see if there is much of a market for them and if so what sort of money would they be worth.
Hugh.

Not sure mate. They are a fairly common unit, but there must be a market for them if they have all the ancilliaries.

Maybe try ebay or the autotrader.

High compression engines are far better than lc engines. EFi unit should be interesting. If you're just selling I'll offer £50 for the lot (condition as seen) delivered to my door. Brand-new LC engines found for <£300. Not the ultimate Landy engine - I have a 220bhpMazda perkins copy that pulls from 0rpm. A 6cyl Toyota that offersV8 performance on diesel. Access to two GMC 6.5 V8's for less money and more power. 200tdi-same power but 40mpg
Ultimate LR engine possibly Griffith500 engine with 32v heads.
Turn up, sell out, f**k off?
Try www.eBay.com
I'd swap my first-born (10) for V8's except he said, "Dad, what are the engine numbers? You know I want a HC V8 in my trialler. Can I borrow your tools to fit this Offenhauser manifold? Call that a carb? I swapped Binky (the ted) for a 4-choke downdraught Weber with Culum (Primary Seven). Can I sell your Edelbrock headers to Angus and use the cash for that high-lift kit as Santa won't bring me it 'cos I don't believe in him anymore?"
Anyway the offer's there.

Hey strange, where'd you find a 200tdi doing 40mpg? Mine's only done 55k, fully doc'd with all receipts and history, and I get 25mpg at best...

It'sin a tax-exempt RR,santana 'box on road tyres (it never saw mud except when parking on 'Caravan Club' sites! Done <20k and was owned by 'caravanista'. I was gobsmacked when I worked out the figures but I checked several times and it was/is genuine (at approx. 50mph yer honour). The service history with the vehicleshowed he cherished it (and spent LOTS!) so this probably helped. I have a 220 bhp V8 (petrol) that does 20+ mpg @ 45-50(ish) but it's 'blueprinted' (lightened, balanced, optimised, clean inside etc.) Not using the brakes helps. Decent oil, minimal friction everywhre (hence the road tyres).
a pre-heater (think Kenlowe o a kit(sorry, 'd','e' and spacbar sticking so insert at will(OOer))) can make a differencetoo.Full synthetic was also used but this stopped when mummy passedon an 'advisory' from the Porsche Club - that fs may not ho;ldparticles in suspnsion longenough for them toget to filter and thereefone (therefore) be removed.
Acouple of days work will 'optimise' your engine - I don't have the facilitties to carry out some 'ops' but I rebuilt a reliant 'Kitten' (like a robin, but 4wheels) in the kitchen sink. Went from 40bhp to 60(+), better economy (once I learnd about 'drafting' I got 93mpg from Newcastle to Aberdeen!!), smoother and redline raised 1000rpm. I also larned how to clen and reshape valvs (car with sodium-filled ones) with a drill and whetstone. If you are not scard of taking an engine to bits, DDavid Vizard (think that's hisname) books are invaluable (but you also have to thinkfor youraself as he loves Fords) - they teach the theories.
Above 30mph, aeroddynamics play a big part.Front of vehicle is more important than rear. Lose the 'spots' anthe 'bull bar' It's all reallytrivial small sh*t but it helps.
I think that next time your cyliner-head gasket goes, most basic help I can give is clean valvess & ports.
Not about power but efficiency - if enginebreathes frely, you willbe reqwardd.
HTH or something.

Cool. Gives me something to aim for!!! Reckon on a full strip and rebuild if/as/when something major goes pear-shaped. Then I can start polishing things; practiced on an old ford cvh engine years back, worked a treat!

Thanks, be good to see some returns like that...

Chris
