Hi all,
Could really do with some help here!!
I've started a defender project and I'm trying to fit a Thor 4L V8. I've already hit the problem of the ecu which I think I can overcome by fitting a megasquirt. I now realise that there are no flywheels available so that I can do away with the auto box which I don't want. My questions are;
Are flywheels available and I'm looking in the wrong place, I won't need the timing gear at the back if i use the megasquirt as it has its own, and if so what clutch would go with it.
Thanks

You'll need the flywheel off either a disco 2 or late P38 V8 manual the latter being very rare..

+1. 4.0 P38 also available as a manual. Check eBay. Bolts up to R380 gearbox which I think went in some Defenders.

Manual diesel way more common but had DMF and I don't know how different it is to the v8. I do know the v8 is better as the bell housing has an inspection hatch to allow access to the clutch without taking half the car apart. The Teflon on the clutch fork bushes tends to wear and then dust gets in causing stickyness that then causes the spiral pins to break and the clutch to wear excessively so best replace bushes and pins when you fit it.

Clutch. If you talk to Clutchfix in Huddersfield and tell them what you want they will make you a clutch for a decent price. The advantage is you can specify how heavy duty you want it.

Thanks to everyone for their input, my logic war that rover would.t have changed the castings and that the V8 bell housings would match up and unless they changed the end off the crank then the flywheels should fit. So my quest now is to find a decent R380 for it , flywheel and clutch, any further advice welcomed. Cheers
