Hey mates!

I've decided to make a swap to my Disco and get a 2.8TD Isuzu, buuuut lately I've been thinking -again- about putting LPG to the thirsty 3.9 V8.

I just started saving so I have plenty of time to make a decision, but to give you and idea, the total cost of the swap is like 4000 dollars, and LPG conversion is like 1600-2000 dollars.

I know the Isuzu idea have a lot of advantages: easier to fix, lower costs of mantainance, more wading capacity due to less electronics, obviusly more MPG, etc. As you can see (Don't know about prices in UK), at least here, the cost of an LPG conversion is much lower, but I've heard that the engine suffers and some people tell me they don't, plus here in Costa Rica we have like an anual test called RTV (Kind off MOT I think?), and there's always plenty of problems when having LPG because the gas test(air-smoke-exhaust test:confused:) is hard. I can confirm that because I work at a Land Rover Shop and when getting costumers LR's with LPG it's just HARD sometimes.

Anyway, I have asked here to many of my friends and people who own LPG in their cars and others who prefer to make the engine swap, so, I have MANY opinions and can't decide... If you could help me, It'll be GREAT!

Again, sorry for me English, isn't perfect. Hahaha!
THANKS!

Hi Fernan, this is a tough one to advise on. Are you talking about just changing the engine for the Isuzu unit, or the whole car?

If you are talking about just changing the engine, have you considered the Brazilian TGV motor, which is a variation of the std. Land Rover TDi 300.

Very good power and excellent fuel consumption.

If you are talking about changing the whole car for an Isuzu versus LPG'ing your existing V8, that's more difficult to comment on. The Isuzu is a fine vehicle but they do tend to rust badly in Europe - how do they survive in your country. Isuzu is also a very popular make of smaller trucks so I guess the parts are readily available???

LR ‘300’ Tdi
Displacement :- 2,495 cc Maximum power :- 111 bhp @ 4,000 rpm
Maximum governed rpm 4,000
Maximum torque :- 195 lbf ft @ 1,800 rpm

International HS 2.8L TGV (Variable Geometry Turbo)
Displacement :- 2,785 cc
Maximum power :- 135 bhp @ 3,800 rpm
Max governed rpm :- 4,000
Maximum torque :- 277 lbf ft @ 1,400 rpm

International HS 2.8L WG (Wastegate)
Displacement :- 2,785 cc
Maximum power :- 132 bhp @ 3,800 rpm
Max governed rpm :- 4,000
Maximum torque :- 262 lbf ft @ 1,600 rpm

Before you spend any money have a look at the TGV unit and see how much that would be.

Good luck my friend

Hey!

I was talking about changing the engine for a Isuzu 2.8, I would never change this rusty metallic pet thing we call Land Rover haha! I haven't seen any TGV around here, so I don't think I could get one, cause I would have to import it and that could be more money (stupid extremely high taxes here), plus if something goes wrong with it (It came out wrong or something), it would be a pain in the ...!

So yeah, I have those 2 options, swap to a Isuzu 2.8TD or putting LPG on it.

Ok Fernan, before answering between those two options, can you please tell me the price of LPG, diesel and unleaded petrol?
