Hello, filled up the P38 (its a 1997 4.0v8 Gems if that makes a difference), got home and when I got out of the car there was a strong smell of petrol. Had a look underneath and can see fuel leaking from the rubber hose which connects the filler neck to the tank. Will obviously need replacing ASAP, has anybody had experience replacing this hose before, is it just a case of removing the rear OS wheel and wheel arch liner to give access to be able to replace the hose or is the job more involved?

Thank you

Not sure if a 1997 is advanced Evaps or not? But this is what RAVE says...

Thank you, think mine is pre Advanced EVAPS, either way looks like once the rear wheel arch liner is removed there should be access to replace the hose. Guess I will find out once I attempt the repair, new hose is on the way.

Yes you can do it but it's very awkward. I did mine after removing the tank for a pump replacement. RAVE makes it sound easier than it actually is !!

Ideally drain the tank first, because then you can do both hoses. Use some soapy water on the fittings to make it easier to move the hoses as you fit them.

I'd get 2 new hose clips ready too if they are anything like mine were.
I cut them through with something, can't remember what, hacksaw, dremal, grinder or broken hacksaw blade. Mines a diesel though, hacksaw only on a ⛽️ petrol.!

I don't know if the petrol is the same, but on the diesel the plastic filler pipe can be removed or moved to make things easier.

Thank you for the advice, appreciate it. Dont know why but I did not realise there were two hoses on the filler neck assy, I thought there was only one which connects the neck to the tank (that's what the drawing shows anyway, just one hose no5). I suppose I would have found out when doing the job. I know the part number is ESR3219 for the hose which connects from the end of the neck into the fuel tank, is it the same part number for the hose on the other end of the filler neck as might as well replace that as well?

Happened to me too. £75 of Shell's finest just ran out onto the road and my driveway. :(
The rubber replacement hose from a pukkah source lasted <2 years, and was pretty perished by then.
Another replacement in silicone (of some variety) has gone on this year. So far, so good.

P.S. The first replacement coincided with an inability to refuel at any great speed/volume. The anti syphon device got snapped off somehow and partially blocked the filler neck. No idea how/why that happened. Got sorted second time around.

There seem to be a few variations depending on VIN number. Might be best to check & measure yours ?

I see what you mean, there was me thinking there were only two filler necks, one for petrol and one for diesel but the lrcat catalogue (thank you for the links) shows that is not the case. I am away for xmas and new year and the new silicone hose has not arrived yet so it will be a job for when I get back in January. I'll get the wheel arch liner off first and see what type of neck mine has, thanks again for the help.

Exactly the same, filled it up with Shell V Power only to see it leaking away!!! Oh well it is what it is, at least brimming the tank has shown up the problem with the hose, looks it a bad way from what I saw, all cracked and beginning to come apart!! Hopefully the new silicone hose will last.
