Hey all,

My 110 is a factory original 3.5 V8 with carbs.

It has a manual 4 speed box with an over-drive.

How much is involved in changing it to a 3.9 EFI from an old Range Rover?

What about the gearbox?

What about the stick positions for hi-low and diff-lock as mine are located in the seat box not on a stubby gear shaft.

I'll take some pics of mine and give a bit of an explanation. Mine is a 1986 3.5EFi with 4 speed auto conversion. Things should generally fit, but the odd thing needs a bit of custom fabrication...

Hmmm, will have to wait till I get home then

Thinking about it, it should be a fairly straight forward swap providing the bolts round the flywheel match up. You will need to make a mounting bracket for the airfilter housing and tack weld it to the outside of the can and bolted to the inside lip on the wing.

Wiring will be a nightmare - I wouldn't attempt to try it on my own:p unless you get the conversion kit from RPI Engineering - give them the engine number and they send you a distributor, Weber 4 barrel carb, Edelbrock or Offenhauser manifold, K&N chrome pan filter and all nuts bolts adapters etc. Total lot comes in at around £700. Heres the carb kit link

I want to convert it to EFI and increase power at the same time.

I suppose i could source a later spec gearbox to couple to the 3.9 EFI as the 4 speed won't take the torque for too long.

If you get a later spec gearbox, you could run into trouble as Rangies use a different number of splines on the axles for extra strength - hence when my landy was converted, the entire drive train was transplanted.

If you mate it to a TDi gearbox and transfer box you should be ok, but remember that the extra power going through standard Landy diffs will make them wear out faster ;)

Thanks for that.

I can see now why www.famousfour.co.uk wanted £3500 to supply and fit new or recon parts.

I suppose i could do it on the cheap with secod hand parts but it is hit and miss if it's any good or not, especially when mines runs so well.

Touch wood.
