It's a rare and original factory 1989 Shire Blue V8 Station Wagon which is in superb condition at just 80,000 miles (SALLDVBV7FA369***). It has been cared for by three specialists: JE Engineering, James French and Frogs Island 4x4 using Genuine Parts and serviced every 6 months to the Land Rover schedule. I have a wad of receipts for the servicing and restoration work and I can supply a summary of this history to enquirers.
The engine is the original 135 bhp twin carb type which burbles nicely. At 67,000 miles it had a top-end overhaul and valve decoke with new cam/chain/tappets. The cooling system is in first rate order having had a replacement water pump, radiator and viscous fan unit. A distributor overhaul, new alternator and fuel pump will help give reliable service.
Last week a new LT85 Ashcroft gearbox/transfer box was fitted the clutch has also been replaced in the last 10,000 miles so no horrors await you.
The steering is precise with no wobble or wandering thanks to new dampers, steering damper, bushes, balljoints and recently the swivel preloads were adjusted.
What is not original are the 5 x Firestyle alloy wheels (from Nene Valley) with 265/75 x16 BFG tyres, OE bumper mounted A bar and Land Rover Safari 5000 aux lamps. An Exmoor Trim security cubby box helps keeps thing safe inside. For improved traction the rear diff is a Detroit Truetrac automatic locking type. The Milemarker winch and bumper fitted last month are not included in the sale so will be replaced by a std bumper.
The bulkhead and rear crossmembers are solid, bar for a little surface corrosion. Whats not so good is the passenger side door skin which has signs of bubbles along the bottom though no corrosion is visible in the door frame itself. With 12 months MOT and tax until end Feb 2007 this is a rare chance to bag yourself a properly sorted V8 Defender for only £6k.
Ive found myself a new V8 project and this car is too good to do anything more than gentle green laning, hence the sale. Please email me at [email protected] . I live close to Newbury, and Ill be going to Old Sodbury Sortout next Saturday.
