V6 warm start problems

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and have been keeping an eye in here over the last few weeks for hints and tips while looking to buy our first Freelander, so first of all thanks for that ;)

Now onto the problem hopefully someone can help me with this.....

Basically the car sometimes won't start after the engine has warmed up. For example.... drive a few miles, stop the car, switch off engine, try to start the engine and it will turn over but won't fire up:rolleyes: I removed the airbox and checked for a spark but there wasn't one then by the time I put the airbox back on it started first time. :rolleyes: Seems to be that the engine needs to cool a little before trying to start it up again.

Anyone any experience of this or can help me in any way.

Suppose it could be any of these things along with dodgy fuel cutoff switch etc etc etc:rolleyes:

Just wondering if this was a common fault with the V6 and if so where and what should I check first :confused:
 
Starter motor sounds fine, battery is healthy and will turn the starter over forever and a day (or so it seems) but it just won't fire when the engine is warm:mad:

OK, it looks like I'm snookered so I'll take it into a local specialist tomorrow and let you know how I get on:(
 
Well my wallet is £50 lighter and I'm no further forward.....

Took it to my local Land Rover Dealer and they did a full diagnostic and found no faults, they started and stopped the car all day and said there was no fault to fix.

Drove home, turned off the engine, tried to start it and you can guess the rest :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Phoned back the dealership and they are being as helpful as they can be but basically if the COMPUTER can't find a fault then they can't fix it :eek:
 
most likely to be the cam sensor (crank sensor v unlikely to go on V6).

the garage has to catch the car when the sensor is failing (therefore immobilising the engine). once the engine starts, the sensor error is cleared.. this, of course makes it v difficult to diagnose it from cold as (technically) the sensor is working properly.

i'd really push the issue with the dealer. engine needs to be warmed up - none of this start-stop crap.
 
Thanks mate, sounds about right. I took the car back to them on Friday and insisted they fix it asap and they have (reluctantly) agreed to this.

I'll post up the outcome when done:)
 
hope they sort it... had the same problem myself a couple of months ago - a real bugger to convince them that there was really something wrong!!! fortunately as i tried to drive it away from the dealer, it played up and i could get them to run a diagnostic there and then.
 
Just to let you guys know that I had both the crank case and cam shaft sensors replaced today and all seems to be working fine now:)

Diagnostics never managed to find any faults because we could never get it to fail while at the garages so we decided replacing both the sensors was the best way forward - seems to have worked :cool:

happy to hear it. out of curiosity, how much did it set you back?

It was £165 to replace both sensors and including the labour costs, so not that bad really. :)
