Da Range's wife posting here, so excuse the newbieness of this post

I've got a Freelander V6 automatic 2004 model (but only 44,000 KM on clock :)) which vibrates at around 3000-4000 revs just as the transmission change from 1st to 2nd. As soon as the gear change happens and the revs drop, all is fine once more and the vibration as gone. The vibration is juddery and feels like its coming from the front.

I've got quite off roady tyres on it at the moment which seem to be amplifying the problem but I don't think they are to blame. Bahrain's roads are not the smoothest in the world, thats why we all love our 4x4s out here but the vibration has been happening on the motorway as well as the dirt tracks.

Da Range has a few theories as to what the problem might be but he's not a Freelander man so I've come here for your advice.

Thanks!

Hi, Although the mileage is quite low the operating conditions are severe and you can expect components like bearings, bushes and joints to wear more rapidly.

I would make a careful examination of the following:

Front driveshafts
Front wheel bearings
Engine and transmission mountings
Propshaft and VCU joints and bearings

I would also make sure all front subframe and suspension bolts are tight.

D..

Thanks Dann. The reason her milage is so low for the age is because she didn't move anywhere for a year, she was kept in a garage and sometimes out in the heat which can be vicious here, up to 50c in the summer.

Also, the potholes and constant speed humps, Bahrain's answer to speed demons, but many humps have never been painted! These can all take their toll on any vehicle.

I will check everything you mentioned, thanks again.

Wow thats hot! I'll bet aircon is the most important feature on the vehicle.

With all that shaking about on those roads you may find that simply tightening everything up will sort the problem.

Good luck.D..

Auto gearbox problem?

Often a fluid change helps but could be a solenoid within the box.
