I bought a brand new freelander td4 this year and have spotted a massive problem that I cant understand how/why its happened.

Under the front wheel arch on BOTH sides (please excuse my total lack of knowledge of car parts and components - I'm a girl and I just drive it!!!) there is a big hole where some panel is missing. It is where a long arm thing goes right through the car to the other side and as I said, the panel is missing on the other side too. You can see straight through the car, and wave to each other from opposite sides!

What was a beautiful shiny blinging engine is now caked in cow crap and mud and I'm not happy! I know its under warantee and I will be phoning the garage today but I wondered if any of you know what the hell I'm talking about or if anyone else has had the same problem? It was NOT like this when we first had it. It went back to the garage for an overdue 2 month "health check" and I'm wondering if they may have taken them off for some reason and forgot to put them back on? I cant be sure how long its been like this.

I use a jet hose to clean it under the wheel arches, could this have caused it? Surely not, and I would have seen the pieces on the drive wouldnt I? Plus its a bit of a coincidence that its both sides.

Please help, at least if only to identify the bits I'm talking about so I dont sound like a total idiot when I phone the garage!!

LOL - havent got a clue what panels you are talking about - but suggest taking the attitude with the garage - "thems was there before yu looked at it - where are they now - replace please! (fluttering of eyelashes)"

I like ya attitude.... "I'm a girl and I just drive it!!" - applies to most Hippoo owners ;) and "You can wave to each other from opposite sides!" I can just visualise that :D

i think the " a long arm thing goes right through the car to the other side" is most likely the steering rack" - the bit wot helps ya turn.

Hi Joll . . .dont worry to much,i think last time it twas in for a check they took the plastic cowels orft to check corrosion and the silly beggers forgot ta put um back, phone em up and i'm sure thats whot it is , it would take more than pressure wash to remove them. . . .best oh luck. . .:) :) :)

My god, you're such blokes on here aren't you?!!:D But thank you for helping out the damsel in distress!

I'm sure thats whats happened too. Someone's going to get their balls busted for it & they can damn well clean my engine too!

Make them do it with there tooth brush!!! Don't stand for it - landrover main dealers ~iss me right off!

When your warranty (for what it's worth) runs out find yourself a non genuine dealer / workshop theres loads around. There generally small business's that care!

I'm not bitter just hate being ripped off and there attitudes!

Anyway happy motoring.

So why did yu say "I'm a girl and I just drive it!" if yu didnt want to be treated as such? Anyway - take it as a compliment - I dont call Ming a "babe" even when he dresses up in girlie clothes :(

Because that's what I am and what I do!! I knew exactly what to expect when I wrote that, I've been on here lots of times and read loads of threads and you are "such blokes"!!!!! Dont worry, I'm not offended in the slightest, I find it quite amusing!! Oh and I'm quite happy to be called a babe!

Nipper 'O' - my patience is rapidly running out with the dealer and I'm beginning to share your sentiments too. I bought the car in July, and was told someone had closed the safe door on the spare key and bent it, but no probs they'd get another on to me in a couple of weeks. Middle of Nov and still no key!!

Take no prisoners mate!

Kick some butt!

It's not just after they've made the sale! My old fellas a farmer I went into a main dealer with him a few years back to buy a disco, we went straight from the farm to the dealer so we was stinking! No one came up to help us guess they wouldn't lower themselves! So we went up to the salesman said we were going to buy a disco today no finance, cash but because they were a bunch of stuck up #rseholes we were going else where. So we found another local dealer and things were a bit different!

So don't think it's just you or a girl thing! Make a seen - best thing is to wait until there's someone looking at a vehicle in the dealership, and get loud they hate it!

You don't need to be patient you've paid them good money for your motor.

You go Girl!!!

Just spoken to dealer, and he's just described exactly what I can see on two freelanders in show room and said thats how it should be. Gap/hole is there to allow movement for the steering rack/suspension? Is this right? Can you see through your cars?!!

Good thinkin! If I can work out how to do it.

Think you mean where the steering rack is attached to the tracking rods. There is no cover for that, meant to be open for engine cooling and clearance for steering arm to move

Drive round your local town and you will see they all freelanders have no covers.
