Urgent advice needed PLEASE

Hi everyone, went to start the landy today but had to jump start it, after a couple of attempt all I had was clicking noises. It was then bump started which was fine until I tried it an hour later, back to clicking noises and when towed, it will not engage in gear,the gear stick goes to moves about but that's it. One thing I did notice was that the thin wide earth strap that goes from gearbox to frame is almost split through and smokes when trying to turn over, thing is I'm doing this landy up and haven't taken her further than the bottom of my drive, at the moment I'm sat in the landy waiting for my lift back home . Any help would be great

Had this exact problem with a slitty engine i ripped out of my s3.

Starter motor is most likely buggered or a bad earth imo.

I went as far as changing the solenoid but it made no difference so ripped out the engine and fitted a V8 instead

What about it now no engaging into gear, clutch was working fine but when I was being towed I put it in all gears and nothing engaged

If your earth strap is smoking, then change it

Push red lever forward

When you say you couldn't get it into gear do you mean....
a. cannot get the gear lever to engage a gear
or
b. gear lever moves cogs into position but there is no drive through the box.

Lever moves but just as if every gear is neutral. Thanks

did you double check red lever it could have jumped out if you've been jump starting...

See if you get any drive with your yellow knob depressed and check your half shafts.

All done, changed earth strap and started straight away, fiddled about with levers and bingo,straight in gear she went. Now in storage for paint job will post some before and after pics on here very soon. Thanks again you lot couldn't of done all these things without your advice, better than the RAC and cheaper
