Unidentifed wires!

My S 3 has fog and hazard lights fitted. However, I have discovered extra wires loose. Can anyone ifdentify these please. I have looked through my Haynes manual and parts catalogue but can't seem to identify them. Pic attached. Thanks.

I was wondering. I think the fog/hazards could be an "optional extra". maybe the extra wires wires were there for more options. I notice they've been "terminated"/made save. I'd hate to think there was extra gadgetry on whcih I was missing out! After I've turned on the lights, heater and wipers there's not a lot else to do!

ex plod car mine, lots of wires i've got no idea of what they do. several switches that do or dont, it's more a mess than standard lucas could ever be!
 
Ex police? British or German? (I notice your location). Any pics? That sounds interesting. I assume you have a lot of defunkt wiring form Police lighing etc...
 
silly question do you have dual circuit brakes.... could be for the brake failiure circuit.. is there a big silver can type relay behind where the switches are and a red lamp just above them..:confused:.
if i get chance i'll take a gander at mine tomorrow, hang on today :doh: ****ing night work messes with your head :eek:

if i see the colours right, the white with red tracer is usually starter solenoid supply, the plain whites usually ignition live.
looks original, tho never seen it in the location pictured. as someone already said, it would appear its for a push button start.
check white wires with ignition on, reckon you should het 12 volt, 0 volt ignition off. nowt either way on the white / red, but check for voltage when you engage the starter. (reckon 12 volt, tho the plug should be protected!)
if so, bridge white to white /red breifly with a jumper wire and see if starter engages. be aware if its not for this you may get a flash of sparks!
(if you aint got a tester, a lamp will indicate voltage - sidelight unit or similar)

This gives you a beter diagram and key for wiring, i still think that it could be to do with your brake warning test system it tests the lamp by putting a feed when cranking the engine via the white and red wire to a relay just behind the centre console this illuminates the lamp to test as the lamp would only normally come on when your brakes fail. the white core will goto the lamp and there will be two black and white cores one to the lamp and one to the c1 terminal of the relay (the relay is a big old metal lucas unit not new plastic box).
if you dont have dual circuit brakes then it may just be extra in the loom.:)
