Right, I'm quite new on here - thanks for all your help so far! This is the first actual "ceasing to progress" problem I have had!

110 200TDi. Got it last week. 196K on it. Got home last night and whilst parking up, clutch pedal went hard when in reverse with pedal depressed. Turned engine off and released clutch pedal. It then stuck up and wouldn't go down again. There is a bit of give in it, so it's not jammed on the actual clutch pedal. Which would probably have been simpler to sort ;)

Any ideas guys?

Sounds like you clutch fork has worn through its pivot or the pushrods dropped off the fork .
the reason why its gone solid is that the slave cylinder piston has gone to the end of its travel , either way remove your slave cylinder and take a look through the hole . if the pushrods dropped off you might be lucky just to get a retainer and refit it back on the fork .
If your unlucky then its dropped down into the bell housing .... , if the rod still in place then its gearbox out or engine to replace the clutch release fork big job either way .

Thanks fella. Hoping for a push rod still accessible from the slave cylinder hole then. What is the retainer you mentioned? I can see a clip on the diagram I have (AXETWISTER4X4_Defender_FastMovingParts.pdf) - is this the same thing?

Cheers,

Simon

PS. if it has dropped down into the bell housing, what are my chances of retrieving it with a magnet on the end of a bit of string?
The alternative might be to crack open the bell housing from the gearbox and hope it will drop out...
Or go the full monty...

Yup, it was the clutch fork. Worn through its pivot. It took two of us three hours to do the lot. Me: fairly basic mechanical skills, Him: seemingly endless experience of working on Landrovers! How fantastically straightforward! (or that might just be me not really having a clue what was going on...)

Anyway, I helped disconnect most of the engine and lift it out to get at the clutch fork - which was actually incredibly useful - I found out where all the bits were etc etc and spent three hours talking to someone who knows an incredible amount about Landies.

Thanks for your help!
