Hello All,

title should read...TD 90

New member here from Sevenoaks, Kent. UK. I'm hoping to get a lot of info from here to help me find a mechanically good Defender TD 90 - what to look out for - models to stay away from etc etc.

I am told this is the one to go for for a reliable engine (?) I am looking for lots of advice on what to look for. I am not looking to spend a fortune as I would like to make it 'my own' over a period of time. most important is to get a solid reliable engine. It will be mainly for road and driving to work (24 miles each way). I hope to use it for fun as well after a period of time.

Looking forward to chatting.

Welcome chap. TD5 LR90 to drive to work, hope you do more than that or get a Ford Ka!!!. My only concern when I got a new 90 (when I briefly thought about a TD5) was that you are reliant on diagnostics to sort probs. If you further afield for example, then this can be an issue. Hell what do I know...enjoy forum

haha...yep hoping to do more than that in time :) I've already found plenty of info on buying Defender 90 TD5's on this forum and I've only been on it half an hour...great stuff!

i would have said the td 90 (19j engine) is about the least reliable engine they ever put in a 90 you need to look for a 200tdi engined defender 90

:welcome2: by the way

you really need to take someone with you that knows landies or at least a computant machanic when looking at them ;)

yes, you're right. i have been looking at the member list and seeing who is near me in sundridge, sevenoaks. i've found a couple of guys and messaged them via the forum. i'd feel much safer taking someone with me. there are plenty on autotrader - td 90's but you never know what's wrong with them - i'd almost be better off buying through this forum! plenty of time - i'm not looking to purchase for a few months.
