Hello All
Its time to replace the tyres on my 2002 P38 Vogue SE.
My current tyres are Continental 4X4 Contact they have lasted very well but do tramline.
I would like the ride to be a bit smoother so I am taking the opportunity and going down from the 18” wheels to 16”.
The tyres I am looking at are the Goodyear Wrangler HP AW and the Michelin Latitude Cross both on the standard size 255/65/16.
I know that there have been complaints about the Wrangler, is that just on the 18” rims?
If anybody out there has got the Goodyear or Michelin on 16” please could you let me know what you think of them.
Thanks

Recently fitted Nexen to mine, brilliant, good grip, very quiet, small but measurable mpg improvement and best of all the slight tramlining it had on Wranglers has totally disappeared. PM wil2813.

NEXEN every time for me thanks Wil:D

Thanks for your replies.
I dont think that the Nexen can be used on 16" rims the load index is 106 not 109.
Datatek looks like you have them on 18" rims which fit Nexens with the correct load index.
My new (scrap yard) 16" wheels arrived today as nobody is saying anything bad about the Wranglers or Latitude Cross I will have to flip a coin.
I will let you all know what I think of them and if the change to 16" is worth it.

Yep mine's on 18"s, I also have 16"s. With the NEXEN's on the 18"s there is no difference between the wheels for handling, no tramlining on either.

I would never use Pirelli again ever... he says he want a better ride, but you can get a softer ride by changing thew settings... I like the wrangler tyre because it looks good, but I would think its noisy??

The Wrangler tyre is the quietest according to the new tyre specs

Here is an update on my tyres:-
I decided to go for Michelin Latitude Cross.
I bought some 16” rims off eBay and took them to the Wheel Specialist at Chester.
They refurbished the wheels and fitted my new Latitude Cross tyres.
So after a few hundred miles this is what I think compared with the 18” rims and Continental tyres:-
RIDE -- much improved you still feel the potholes but transformed from a crash to a muffled thump
HANDELING -- I was expecting the handling to be worse, completely wrong it is much improved.
TRAMLINEING -- Gone!
NOISE -- Much quieter probably less than half the road noise and I thought the old tyres were quiet.
The tread depth is 10mm and wide gaps in the tread so should be good in the snow/off road.
As you can see I am well impressed with the Michelin Latitude Cross, the only down side I can see is that the 16” rims probably do not look quite as good as the original 18” comet rims.
I have added some pictures, hope they work.

I have just fitted my second set of Lattiude cross on my 18 in rims .
The first set lasted about 45000 mile on all road conditions .
I took them across Russia to Mongolia twice.
One rim got damaged but the tyre was still ok and did a further 15000 miles on another rim.
One tyre got steaked and just left the rubber on the rims ( got a new tyre in Murmansk much to my surprise )
So my vote is for Michelin Lattitude cross.
Beware of kwick fit they tried to fit Lattitude tour telling me thats what i ordered so I walked out on them.
