Freelander 2 (LR2) Tyres (again)

The time has come for me to look at tyres again. The choice of 235/65 R17 V 104 (or 108) tyres now includes terms such as 'Summer', 'Winter', 'All Season', 'M&S' and '3PMSF'. And then there's fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise level to consider. Not mentioned is longevity.

Bearing in mind most of my driving is on B roads, in the wet (rains a lot here in Argyll), with occasional forays down the M6 and across the Pennines, and I no longer push the car to it's, or my, limits (both of us are knocking on a bit).

Leaving 'Summer' out of the equation, what are the tyres to avoid.

You'll struggle to better Yokohama Geolander 015 for all round performance in all conditions. They are available in that size, and work well on the Freelander. From memory they are also 3 peaks rated, so can be used in Europe over the winter.

Literally fitted these a month or so ago. So far, really nice, not noisy at all and good in the wet. Good grip off road.

I fitted Geolander 015’s on the F1 - they also perform well in all conditions including green laning.

I think the Wildpeaks look a little more aggressive, which I like - suits the FL.

Mine are rubbish in the wet, especially now part worn. They hold the water in the tread

Not sure I like the look of those Falken Wildpeaks. They look a bit 'blocky' to me, and in my experience that translates into road noise. Okay on dirt roads, grass and muddy farm tracks I expect, but on wet tarmac?

Current tyres are Yokohama Geolander CV G058. They've been good, but when it's sub-zero they take a few miles to loosen up. Their A/T G015 looks more suited to the colder weather as they have the TPMS

symbol. How much of that is marketing hype I don't know.

The wildpeaks are all season with the tpms symbol and are good in snow, but once worn down a bit there's no siping to let water out of the tread. It's a solid band of rubber on the inside and outside edges of the tyre

The Wildpeaks also have the 3 peaks marking.
I’ve been up and down the motorway on them and can honestly say I find them no different to the G015, and wouldn’t call them noisy.
