use 205s most days and get less road noise and better mpg.

asked a similar question a while back and got varied answers, some say skinny is better off road others say wider is better. If you like em mate and at that price prob worth a punt ;)

Still deciding whether to spend dosh on tyres (credit card of course ) i was finkin of getting steel rims anorl... was watchin a set in b'ham on fleabay but forgot the end time and missed em (was busy tasting me homebrew again)... they went fer 99p

personally, I wouldn't go for 205's........had a set of MT a few years back, sold them immediately after a trip to a pay and play site.....as I get stuck badly at many places where a mate who runs 235/70's AT made it through all right ....think they are more suited for lighter vehicles like Jimny etc.........

btw.....got the tow bar off today.....will be getting new set of bolts tomorrow. Couldn't find the brown parcel shelf...will grey do? (see if I have any luck looking for the brown one over the next few days, if found, will send you the brown one).......passing them to Zedman sometime next week, so he'll bring them to you...

I suppose if you don't do pay and plays much....205's MT are okay for laning and daily use.......go where your wallet tells you :D

am now running 31x10.5x15 Hankook RT03 as daily run about, laning and trials (if & when grounds are dry stuff).....and 235/85/16 for trials only when the trial site is muddy....

will try to find you the brown shelf.......as the grey one matches my disco actually....

Found a place in worcester 4 x 205 mt's fitted fer £160 had them ordered for tuesday just gone but i havent bin able to source steel rims i wanted them put on so i called on tuesday and asked em to keep em until i got the rims sorted 'no problem' was the answer 'we've got loads in stock now'

This morning i got up and thort sod it i'll just av the tyres put on the alloys ive got on saves me ****ing about trying to get steelies so i called the tyre place to tell em i was on me way and all was well........got in the mota just about to get on the motorway and thort about a spare  so i called em back just to make sure they had the 5 tyres from this 'loads in stock in' he spoke about....

ffs good job i called back they sold me tyres and hadnt got my number to let me know not to bother wasting me time driving 30 mile to find out  ... loads in stock my arse  the guy sed he'd call me back with another delivery date :(

However........got back in the house and got an email from a guy in bristol who's got 5 steel rims fer a tenner and said he was up in b'ham on sunday so could meet me :5bparty: then the tyre place called me and i got a deal on 5 tyres for £175 fitted so alls well that ends well :D:D

Just need nuts fer the steel rims so if anyones got steel nuts (wheel :D) let me know ;)

I wouldn't bother with 205/80R16, the biggest single improvement in off roading you'll get is to fit bigger tyres. I'd seriously consider 235/85R16 or 265/75R16, both will go quite happily on stock 7" steel rims and needs minimal arch trimming.

Thanks for the advice but as it happends i dont do off road, i do quite well on road tyres greenlaning... i'll be fine with 205's

dont think steel nuts are too expensive spence, might be worth a look on ebay

They're pretty cheap mate, I got a set of 20 off ebay for about £12 iirc but have a good look, I do remember prices varied wildly from what I paid up too £30/£40:eek:.

Thought bout the 205's, only do 'mild' off roading. My brother runs a 300 Tdi on road tyres ( might as well be slicks compared to mine!) and he gets everywhere I do. Can you let us know how you get on as its coming time for me to reshod me 200Tdi.

Thanks,

Sky
