OK, so I bought this Freelander, took it to my local independent for a check over and he tells me its a two wheel drive !
The whole propshaft assembly has been removed, he reckons this is common ish, I don't intend to use the car off road but my questions is - what does it do to the value and re-sell-ability ?
I paid 2400 for a 2002 ES with full leather, drives fantastic, great condition, 94K.
Any opinions welcome but please don't bother me with stupid comments about buying a 4x4 if i'm not using it off road !! :)

Removing the prop on a freelander stops the transmission from winding up and so massively improves it's reliability. And it will still be far better off road than a Ford Focus.

have a look in the freelander section that will give you some clues

I can say that its not a good sign , resale value will be crap on it like that
sometimes its removed purely because it improves fuel enconomy but usally its because of a fault

propshaft bearings
VCU(viscous coupling unit) positioned inbetween prop halves by the way
IRD unit ( intermediate reduction drive )

get a garage you trust to check it out , if its the VCU or IRD its an expencive fix and id leave it as it is if your not going to use it offroad

much of the time the VCU seizes and damages the IRD

the IRD is the freelander version of a transfer box , it makes a front wheel drive gearbox four wheel drive

this is only a quick gloss over , see the freelander section for more in depth info , it could be any of these reasons above

welcome
