Morning folks, i'm thinking of fitting the twin battery set up to my Td5 110

http://www.flatdoguk.com/defender-twin-battery-tray~93

I already have a Red Optima so would just have to buy a yellow one too, but what i wondered is, how do you wire them? Can i just put the battery cable from one positive to the other battery's positive, or do i need a split charge system? Thank you

Why are you fitting a second battery? If you have accessories that might be used when the engine is off you'll need to wire it so you don't use up both batteries.

You can just wire them together yes, but it's ALWAYS going to be better with a split charge system especially with differing batteries.
Also it doesn't need to cost a fortune unless you want one with all the bells and whistles.
Or at least use a couple of battery isolators

Thank you both for your replies, i'm not in need of anything fancy.

Reason i want another is just peace of mind, from the one battery i have fitted now, i run car and winch from it. Car has additional lights, power sockets etc.

I want to wire in an invertor, a fridge and my jump leads to an anderson socket, just felt it was a big ask for one battery.

Can anyone recommend a cheaper twin battery charging set up?

Here's a couple of wiring diagrams I've lifted from somewhere at sometime. Not necessarily the definitive answers but to give you ideas.

What the op is after is a leisure battery, wiring two battery's together is ok if they are the same but pointless if not the same capacity and age as the bad one will drag the new one down,

You will need a split charge like above what jam1 posted.

But I disagree with the ALWAYS better to have a split charge, depends what you want to do with the Landy, my 90 challenge truck has 2 identical battery's wired together in parallel to give me 186ah and 2000cca to power 2 warn 8274 winches both running 12v one has a bow 2 motor and the other is ep9, and I removed the split charge to get more power for winching.

Thank you Warrior, i think if i was to fit an additional battery wired parallel, i could always isolate it, but as mentioned if i fail to turn lights off for example, it'll drain both as opposed to the one that would drain if they had a split charge system?

On my old D1 i had 2 that i just wired parallel.

If people say that the one i have will do the job for all accessories then i'll just leave the one fitted.

I only have 2 fitted as I need the cca for faster winching,

Wiring a split charge isn't hard at all id say as easy as putting an isolator in.

Why not just buy a volt gauge and go from there, you can monitor your battery and make a desision after. The fact you have a good battery will go along way to helping.

I have always used numax and they have stood the test of time, 5 years on my old Landy then I sold that and bought 2 more for the new one.

Cxv24mf are what I have I've got 2 under my passenger seat. I dint buy them from this website but it's got all the info.

And although there leisure battery's they still have alot of cca for starting or winching.
