Turbo?? Help

Hi I have recently bought a 300 tdi and noticed that it seems pretty gut less at low speed like if your on a slight hill when you change into 2nd it almost stalls and if you try taking off on a hill from a stand still it will stall unless you rev before lifting clutch

Is this normal for 300tdi's or is the turbo away is there anyway of telling?

It got 90k on the clock fsh

Sounds to me like it needs a billody good service
Inter cooler wash out ect

Defender or disco , what size tyres are fitted ? maybe a bit overgeared turbo will be giving no boost at pull away.

Sorry its a 98 disco 300 tdi now with 285 75 16 tyres but was the same with 235 70 16 Pirelli road tyres

I had the same symptoms on my 300tdi 90 fitted with a 1.2 transfer case. The engine had no guts whatsoever until the turbo started spooling up. I remember it being more powerful and really couldn't understand what was wrong. Last week, the fuel injection pump developed a bad leak suddenly so i took it off and sent it away for a service. The transformation was HUGE. There's a particular hill a few hundred metres away from my office. Until last week, the turbo would only spool up if I approaced it at speed in second gear and put my foot down. This morning i was barely doing 10mph in 3rd gear. I gave it a bootful, heard an almighty whistle and away it went!
