turbo gone

I have a 03 disco td5 (51000 miles), and the Turbo has gone, a few days after an oil service and MOT. On checking the dip stick, the level was as high again from the bottom to the high mark. I drained 2.5 litres to bring it back to the full mark. The garage says no connnection. Any other thoughts/ experiences.

If your engine was overfilled by 2.5 litres of engine oil it is possible that the turbo is not in fact gone at all!

When an egine is overfilled with oil the oil can get past the piston rings etc and into the combustion chambers resulting in clouds of smoke from the exhaust with results similar to when a turbos gone.

Draining the oil down like you have done may have no effect to the smoking issue for a few days as the exhaust will still be full of unburnt oil and oil residue which will continue to smoke for some miles

Also if engine oil has found it's way into the exhaust it will have got into the catalytic converter and that spells TROUBLE!!

Was the turbo still boosting???

If the garage overfilled it to that extent and it's gone wrong pretty much straight afterwards bloody right there's a connection. Oil could well have got up into the combustion chambers and into the exhaust system. Take it back to the garage that did it and tell em to sort it out sharpish or the trading standards are getting a call.

Ahhhhhhhhh thank you very muchly

Just my tuppence worth, if the head gasket has gone the water coould find its way into the sump lifting the oil level? Again this would make the car smoky ect

Also diesel contamination if the injector sealing washers leak or the head is cracked.

Any signs of water in the oil or oil in the water? Check these to rule out head gasket problems.
