Hi

got a few issues going on at the moment with my Freelander, Anyone got any ideas

  • the Turbo on seems to be running all the time, even at low speeds.
  • the Turbo pipes have got oil residue at either end of the pipe, but there are no obvious breaks or tears in the pipes (I have only inspected the top pipes)
if anyone has got any ideas i would be greatful

cheers

Why you start your engine to turbo works. Turn off the engine and turbo stops. Thats how they work is off of the exhaust gases and the engine needs to be running to product exhaust gas.(FART):D:D

so it should be running all the time then, I thought that they kicked in after 2500 revs or am I just being thick.......:confused:http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/images/smilies/confused.gif
Thats when they product the most turbo boost, think of turbo as a engine designed to produce air volicety .

As your diesel produces more exhaust pressure it spins the turbo faster up to 25-30,000rpm which produces more turbo boost .Peak turbo output is about 2500 rpms on your engine

Normal for the intercooler hoses to be contaminated with oil even after bypassing the EGR, just check that they are not holed/split if they are renew them.

Thanks guys

I think I will change the Turbo hoses anyway. is there a product on the market to clean the inside of the Turbo such as a degresser spray, all the gunge that builds up in the Turbo cant be too healthy can it.

My hoses where oily on the outside and I couldn't find a split then a couple of weeks later it split with a vengeance! I think the oil residue is the first sign of a weak or porous hose. Change them both now.
