got an email today from Ron about tuning my L series freelander an have followed his advise and purchased a RonBox VP tuning box, a decat kit and an egr removal/blanking kit. The other suggestion he made was to turn the boost up a couple of psi by adjusting the wastegate linkage, now i have little to no experience of turbos so the question is how easy is this to do or should i leave it to the pro's and if so can anyone recommend a good specialist in the N Lincs area, thanks in advance Mark :)

I've got an L series and less knowledge than you can you giver more details on what you've done already and when you get it the rest of the modification please I'd be very grateful

will be doing most the work this week when the parts arrive so will give a detailed blow by blow when the works done, thanks for the interest nice to know im not the only one on this learning curve,Mark

i already have a EGR removal kit on my L series a cone filter and turbo turned up and knocked the cat out

i dont notice a big difference but it revs so much more freely now

just need the funds to buy a tuning box

i did the work my self i will take alook tomorrow at it and try and make a guide but i am working tomorrow so wont be till evening

but if you look at your turbo u will see a threaded bar... take off the clip that holds this to the turbo then you can wined the thread to make the thread visibly shorty then refit and test... please note the shorter the thread the more difficult it will be to refit without using some sort of lever to help

this is pretty much it but will take some photos tomorrow and make a guide if you havnt worked it out by then

Just remember to use an accuate pressure guage when adjusting the waste gate control rod. Take before and after readings but I'd not give it more than 2 or 3 psi increase.

heres a picture of the clip you need to undo and turn to make the thread shorter to increase boost

as said above take before and after PSI readings.

i adjusted mine until i was happy with it but if i fook it up its my fault.... if you see oil on my photo ignore it. it drips from my intake pipe because i need to get a new clip for the breather -intake pipe

its a bit short and sweet but it is all that is needed and the picture shows where to look and what to adjust

hope it is of some use for you

it of alot of use thank you, good of you to take the time, now all i need is a good pressure gauge and i should have it sorted,Mark

as long as you can understand to do the job.

its not a hard job just a case of knowing which clip to take off in order to turn the PSI up

i did my turbo quite a while ago, maybe mine was messed with before i got her but the difference. was minimal altho i do carry a lot of heavy tools etc which does'nt help its a van swb..
I would imagine the best/first thing would e a good service and flush etc maybe even a krypton?
I also have a blowing flexie which isnt doing me any favours..

have now done the de-cat, fitted a ronbox, disabled the egr and while i was at it changed the gear box and ird oil, biggest single improvement came from the de-cat, although each has improved the overall performance, just need to do the turbo now

If your egr valve was working and not jammed open then it will make little or no difference at full throttle as it would be closed anyway. The egr valve is opened while cruising to help reduce NOX emissions.
De-cat should increase power and get the boost up a couple of hundred rpm lower :)

whats the ronbox like being thinking about it lately but i keep finding more faults which need to be done first lol

To be honest the ronbox has only been in since yesterday but it did make a slight improvement straight away just need a few days now to mess around with the setting the de-cat kit i bought of ebay was the biggest improvement so am assuming the cat was coked up and restricting the exhaust,
will mess about over the next few days with the ronbox and report back on what i think :D

just had new flexipipe straight pit and back box fitted thats given me a good improvement id guess 20bhp it feels like that anyway - the old exhaust was blowing from the flexi it then snapped nr the backbox which had a few holes in the pipes the cat was good so i kept that, oddly it didnt sound rough even tho the back box had snapped away infact i was looking for a rattle in the back not the snapped exhaust lol.
