tubo diesel is it woth it

Hi Guys ive just put new pistons and big ends in my 2.5 NA and still getting a lot of blow back so it looks like my bores have had it. Ive been offered a 2.5 Tubo diesel decent but cheap so is it worth the transplant as the conversion is straight forward now ive been told the only difference is the flange on the exhaust manifold, is that right.

You'd be better of transplanting to a TDi for a small extra expense if you can. Then, yes, the exhaust manifold is different.

I would sooner go for a tdi but time i buy the engine 400 squids then the conversion kit from steve parker for 300 squids plus sundries ends up about 800 squids as opposed to 250 quid for the engine and a bit of exhaust.

You should get a reasonable disco tdi for 200, the conversion kit is only £70 or so - not much more than a td and if you do the td you'll only wish you had done the tdi!

Here's the converter...
defender 90/110 discovery engine conversion down pipe on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 10-Mar-08 20:37:13 GMT)
and i was offered a good disco tdi with about 130 on it for £150 (although it was from a guy who i was going to pay to fit it for me as well) - it was off an old one he'd had in as a PX which had rusted to dust but the engine was fine (apparently! - and it sounded OK)

you can get 200 tdi's for that sort of money ffs

All in! The quote i had was £100 for the bits, £150 for the engine and probably about £4-500 to fit the thing and get it all up and running. He even offered me the disco gearbox for £50 on top, fitted at the same time if i wanted.

you can buy a rough old disco complete for about 5-600 without an mot. it will have everything you need plus a few spares to sell and re coup

That's what i was told too, £500 fer a good (knackered) disco MOT failure, you should get £400 back off it with scrap the value it is at the moment. Plus £40 for yer old engine!

def a tdi the transfer box is missing but i wont need that anyway. is the exhaust the only mod as i was told the rad brackets need changing and a mod for the intercooler pipes

rad brackets need cutting down and rewelding, you need new intercooler pipes, most ppl make them themselves outta odd bits of pipework im lazy and bought the steve parker kit for that as well.
