Hi one and all

I am just about to get some new tyres and wheels for a overland trip to india next year and was wondering which would be better to have tube or tubless tyres?

Cheers Adam :D

Tubeless tyres are less prone to puncture and generally higher rated for speed.
Fit tubeless and carry a couple of tubes for emergency use.

Fit tubeless, they generally go down slowly when punctured, and can be reinflated to carry on untill conditions are suitable to repair i.e. cooler place etc
You can get a repair kit that you dont even have to remove the tyre from the rim .
A couple of tubes carried as mentioned above will allow you to repair bigger holes/cuts if you carry a couple of casing patches as well.
Dont forget a pair of tyre levers.
A h/d ratchet strap will help reseat the bead if used round the centre of the tyre if you dont have a high supply air system. HTSH :)

Sod that.. Tubed every time, if tubed int betterer why carry them just in case? An surely if something penetrates a tube it has to penetrate the tyre so how can haveing a tube in yer tyre be worse than not having one. Hey an anufferthing if you hit summat that has the force to break the seal between the tyre an rim, if you don't have a tube in then you'll have a flat tyre.

The reason tubeless is better ,
1. the tyre runs cooler, therefore will have longer mileage life, it also allows you to run lower pressure than tubed if required as the heat build up is less so therefore casing less likely to be damaged than a tube in similar situation . Heat is the biggest killer of tyres.
2. If a tubeless tyre gets a puncture ,99% of the time it will only deflate slowly when compared with a tubed tyre.
3. Due to 2 above it is quite often possible to reinflate the tyre, if need be several times so that you can pick a better time, conditions when to rectify the problem. A tubed tyre does not give you this choice, which could be useful if you are in the middle of sand dunes in 50C .
4. A tubeless tyre can often be repaired by plugging, without even removing it from the vehicle, a tubed tyre has to be removed from vehicle, then from rim .
5. If you push a tubeless tyre off rim due to having the pressure too low , jack vehicle and reinflate. If you pinch tube in same situation see 4
6. You carry tube and casing patch so that if you have sidewall or tread gash you can still use casing(tyre) and you are still no worse off than starting with tubed tyre.
Hope that helps you understand the logic of it all Grunt but you are absolutely entitled to your own opinion . :D

The ARB one is basically the luxury kit supplied by Rema Tip Top, but REMA only seem to supply as a smaller kit in the UK for ATV tyres.
The Ebay from Malaysia kit will do the same job. although I cant advise re quality of tools .
1. these kits work very well
2. they are not meant for long time repair
3. The idea is when you get to a good tyre repair place they will demount tyre , to check for internal casing damage If OK they will then remove your temp repair, and fit a mushroom headed plug that is inserted from inside tyre so that it cannot blow out(mushroom shape head cant go thru hole)
4. The method of use with easy seal kit is
1. jack up tyre so you can get at where punc is .
2. remove nail/thorn etc
3. take reamer (rasp) tool and clean hole (round and round in
and out)
4. insert string into application tool
5. coat in glue/sealant
6. Insert in hole twist and pull out tool leaving sealstring in place
7. Wait a few minutes for glue to go off trim off excess
8. Re inflate tyre
9. lower jack
10 drive away (check pressure after few miles

HTSH :D
