Instead of glowing em up and the waiting, try glowing em up 3 or 4 times in quick succession and then trying to start it immediately.

did try thay once but did not make much difference

Try starting it straight away without glow plugs. If it starts the same as with glow plugs then you can pretty much say they've had it. If you want you can either use a multimeter to check resistance with them in situ or you can remove em and test em with a set of jump leads. (I prefer to take em out so I can see them working and check their condition).

when you say start them with out glow plugs you mean dont wait for the glow plug light to go out also how do you check thm with jump leads and what should i be loooking for

Yes. Thats correct

also how do you check thm with jump leads and what should i be loooking for

Remove a glow plug from yer freebie. Connect the negative jump lead to your battery and clamp it on the main body of the glow plug.
Connect the positive lead to your battery and hold it onto the terminal on the top of the glow plug. (carefull not to touch the leads together. Also hold the glowplug by the negative lead and not with your hands.) If the glow plug glows up nice and cherry like, it works. If it doesn't it's fecked.

ok will try do i have to switch ingintion on or just connect them up

Just connect em up. It is easiest if you connect the earth to the car first and then exactly where you want it on the glow plug body. Put the glow plug down on the floor. Hold both ends of the positive. Connect one end to the car. Keep hold of the other end at all times. Pick up the negative clamp holding the plug. Touch the positive that you are holding onto the small thread on top of the plug. DO NOT CLAMP IT ON. Once you are satisfied with the result, Drop the negative clamp holding the plug. Disconnect the positive clamp off the battery and then again holding only the clamp release the grip it has on the glowplug and allow it to drop where you want it to land. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PICK IT UP UNTIL IT HAS COOLED. Repeat the proccess with all plugs. If a couple of em are good and a couple are duff I would drop the good ones in one pile and the duff ones in another. Replace the full set if some are duff and keep the good ones as spares for next time.

ah ok got thanks for that i see it is only pssible to change 3 of the 4 glow plugs

3 is better than none. Is the last one under the injection pump or summit? Could you not get it with a uj on yer socket?
yes behind the pump and it as to be removed if u are going to change that plug i beleive but am not sure

ok got the 2 middle glow plugs out how do you get the 3rd one out there seems to be a hose in the way also the 2 i took out connected them to jump leads an they did not glow at all not even a spark as i connected the red lead so are them 2 no good

thanks ratty for your helpbut how as it been starting also trying to get the plug ut behind the hose manged to undo it now but seems to long to come out passed hose

What type of hose is it thats preventing it coming out? Do you have a pair of long nose pliers that can get on the tip? It my come out without a socket on it cos it'll be shorter. The other way is to lift it so far with a socket and then get a screwdriver down the side of it and gently pry it out. If all else fails just replace the 2 easy ones. They will still make a huge difference to it's starting. You can always have a go at it another day.

hi its a water hose get it out so far but then the tip its the hose

If it's a rubber hose you may be able to gently push the hose over enough to get it out. They are usually fairly resilient. The other option is to take the hose off and refit it after. Make sure you put all the plugs back in before you do it though. You don't wanna hydraulic lock the engine. Do you have the new plugs yet? I would pry on the hose personally. Glow plugs often are fiddly to get out which is why they often tend to get neglected.
