Hello all - I bought my TD5 90 in between lockdowns last year so it's only in the last couple of weeks that I've been able to drive any distance and really get to know it. In amongst the usual symphony of Landy music there is a consistent transient vibration/thrumming that appears between 35 and 40 MPH - happens in 4th or 5th (and on both acceleration and deceleration) so whatever it is must be downstream of clutch/gearbox. It does not feel like a wheel balance issue as you can't feel it particularly in the steering wheel. The propshaft UJ's were greased a few weeks back and I checked them all then - all seemed fine with no play. Any thoughts on where I should look next?

If the propshaft has ever been replaced, it may be out of phase or slightly unbalanced. Are all the tyres ok? I once had a similar symptom and I found a bulge the size of a golf ball on the inside wall of one of the tyres

I tend to find that a speed specific vibration occurs when the propshaft joints are starting to get loose. A tiny bit of movement can yield a lot of vibration.

Thanks Col - I can’t see a prop shaft replacement in the service history so assume it’s the original. Have not checked the tyres though so will do that this week. J

Thanks! I'll check them over again.

I’m trying to resolve something similar my self on a 2004 td5 double cab. 5th gear from 60- 70mph has a awful vibration feeling through driveline not really any feeling of it in the steering. So far have put a new LOF single mass flywheel and clutch, spigot bearing, new transferbox at the same time, pair of new propshafts, checked the handbrake wasn’t binding, engine & box mounts are all good, new wheels & tyres was just the same, not sure where to go from here, might start stripping the axles out.. wheel bearings & swivels have no play..
Knowing my luck would be a bearing on its way out in the gearbox the one unit I didn’t replace when doing the clutch & transferbox!!
