Afternoon .
I've a thud on take up of drive I've checked the axles ,prop shafts bushes etc all good
Beast is a 300 TDI with r380 box am I right in thinking the transfer box is lt230 ..

Yes + you can confirm ratio from the data tag/serial number. More info here

 
It's unlikely (not impossible) that the issue is with your LT230.

the 'A' frame ball joint and or the bushes are the most likely culprits, they are difficult to check on the car.

I would check the drive members bolted to the hubs, they like to get little pointy teeth rather than the square ones they should have, but if it is actually the gear box I would expect it is more likely to be the gearbox output shaft teeth wearing down rather than the the internals of either box. You should be able to inspect these by removing the transfer box inspection cover and input gear.
