Transfer box selector problem

Is it possible to put the transfer box selector in backwards?
I've recently got a 1994 defender 90, the transfer box gear lever is in the back position but it's in low box with diff lock on, I can't get it in to high box, the stick moves but doesn't engage high box?

I would say something is broken in the linkage.

yes it is easy to get it the wrong way round ,the lever that transfers movement to linkage on side of lever housing can be fitted wrongly ,it need s turning round and fitting on the right spline to engae both high and low

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping that was it, the chap I got it off said it was the wrong way round, I'll have a look in my Haynes to see if there is a diagram and instructions.
