Transfer box ratio (petrol)

Can any one tell me what the transfer box ratio would have been on a series two petrol 88" land rover

My mate wants to take the petrol out and shove a 2.5n/a in at and also pur defender diffs in.

I told him that it may be over geared but that the petrol may have had a lower ratio transfer box than the diesel.

Don't want to sell him an engine and diffs that will not work with his gearboxes

petrol and diesel are the same ratio, 2.5 should pull 3.54 diffs ,a good 2.25 diesel will

Mine pulls ok until I get to 40 / 45 mph then it starts to struggle, big tyres don't help.
There is a big gap in the gears, 1st up to third is ok but big gap into fourth and then fifth very close, not long till 200 tdi though so putting up with it and cruising at 40 mph
