Hi
1993 200Tdi auto.
Was moving my transfer box lever around earlier to make sure it didn't seize when lost all pressure on front to back movement and car has no drive.
Nice people from Green Flag have just brought me home after advising me that transfer box is f****d.
Just been underneath and car and I can see that one part of the linkage has sheared but I can't make out where the other part is attached.
Has anyone got a link to a diagram of the linkage please. I've been through Haynes, searched the site (only link I can find is dead) and can't find one.
Thanks
Richard

not as useful as this.....

Just found this after an internet search and it nearly answers my problem. Mine is on a defender 90
Mine can only select Low ratio. I've followed the linkage down to the box and all parts are moving. Can I go any further with the box attached. Or could it be selector fork problems that need the box taken out.
Another diagram of the workings might help but I've a feeling this is going to cost an arm and a leg.

box is the same disco/depender

But the linkage is a bit different.

Have a look inside the housing on the top where all the linkage goes into.
On Defenders, there's a grub screw which comes loose. Clean it up and loctite it. With a bit of luck it'll solve your problem. You can get at it from under the centre front seat if memory serves.

Sorted!
Thanks Diver for the advice. The grub screw was ready to fall out so caught it in time.
In the end it was a simple job.(says he!)
Access from under the centre seat. Removed the 4 screw that hold the plate in place and removed plate. Next I disconected the cotter pin at the the link where it joins onto the bar that goes into the top of the gear box. I next removed the breather pipe union and moved that out of the way. The six bolts holding the housing in place were next removed. 5 of them being 10mm and the sixth one 12mm holding an earth lead!. The housing lifted clear and I was able to see the grub screw holding the selector to the shaft. I but a drop of Loctite on it and screwed it back in.
I cleaned up the surfaces and but a touch of instant gasket on the botom one. The housing was then put back into place feeling for the selector dropping into the slot that goes into the box. I then replaced everything in reverse order and tested it.
I then came into the house with a smirk on my face and made a cup of coffee.
This is the first vehicle I've had for about 20 years that I can actually work on. My skills are very limited but I'm learning all the time. With the help of people on this forum and friends with land rovers, I'm sure I'm going to years of pain and pleasure working on this beast.
